Who builds solar power plants in Ukraine: a list of investors

In Ukraine, the production of electricity from renewable sources is growing at a record pace. The priority of investors is solar power plants. Liga.net has collected a list of the largest projects in the "green" direction. The editorial of AIN.UA publishes a brief excerpt from the article.

The main figures and why the “green” electric power industry is growing

Solar panels are leaders in the list of sources of electricity. Thus, according to the State Energy Efficiency Agency, in 2018 the SPP capacity was 1,389 MW, which is almost twice as much as last year.

It is worth expecting for an even more investment boom in 2019, as investors will try to earn at a high green tariff, at which the state buys electricity.

However, already in 2020, the transition to the auction system is planned, which will reduce the cost of procurement and the profitability of projects.

However, there will be a lot of solar power plants in Ukraine until that time. That’s who builds them.

DTEK and China Machinery Engineering Company

DTEK and China Machinery Engineering Company are jointly building the Nikopol SPP. The total investment will amount to 230 million euros. With a declared capacity of about 200 MW, after commissioning, it will become the largest in Ukraine and enter the top 3 in Europe. SPP will provide up to 100,000 households.

The facility was to be commissioned by the end of 2018. This has not happened yet, but judging by the pictures, the construction is at the final stage.

Investments of Vasyl Khmelnytskyi

SPP is also being built by UDP Renewables, the majority shareholder of which is Vasyl Khmelnytskyi.

In the summer of 2017, the company launched the first phase (6 MW) of the solar power plant in the village of Dymerka, near Kyiv. A year later, UDP Renewables announced it had signed a contract with the Spanish company Acciona Energia.

Foreigners were supposed to invest 53.7 million euros, and Ukrainians – to build a facility with a capacity of 57 MW. So far, the SPP has not been commissioned.

In 2019, UDP Renewables should open stations:

  • “Scythia Solar-1” – 13 MW;
  • “Scythia Solar 2” – 33 MW;
  • “Port Solar” – 8.4 MW.

Norwegian Scatec Solar

At the beginning of 2019, the company began building a SPP of 25 MW 60 km from Cherkasy. Approximate investment in the project is 30 million euros, of which 24.5 million are lent by the EBRD and the Dutch development bank FMO.

Canadian TIU Canada

In the autumn of 2018, the company began construction of the Vita Solar SPP in the Mykolaiv region. Its capacity is 13.5 MW, the area is 20 hectares.

The exact price of the project is unknown. Until the end of 2019, TIU Canada intends to invest in the construction of SPP in Ukraine up to $100 million and begin construction of four more facilities in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

French-Ukrainian Main Group Ukraine

In 2019, the company will begin construction of a 85 MW SPP on the outskirts of the Dnipro. The project is estimated at 90 million euros. The station should provide electricity to 180,000 households.

“Eco-Optima”

The company is building SPP in Yavorsky district of Lviv region. The current capacity of the facility will be 36 MW, it will be fully commissioned until the summer of 2019. After that, the capacity will increase to 130 MW. The project has invested 34 million euros, of which 70% is EBRD loan.

“Aeneas International”

The company signed a memorandum on the construction of SPP in the Zhytomyr region. The facility must generate up to 55 MW, it will occupy 89 hectares and will require an investment of 50 million euros. The launch may take place in the autumn of 2019, but the company has not yet reported on the status of the project.

Ukrainian Rodina and German Enerparc AG

The companies are building SPP in the Chornobyl zone. In October 2018, they already commissioned a 1 MW facility near the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP. The project cost $1.15 million. However, companies want to increase the capacity of the SPP in the exclusion zone up to 100 MW.
