Ukraine ranks among top 20 countries for spam botnet victims – IBM research

IBM has published the annual IBM X-Force Threat Intelligence Index 2020 report. According to the report, Ukraine was ranked among the top 20 countries for spam botnet victims.

Ukraine ranked 12th among the top 20 countries of spam victims.

Victims of spam botnets spanned the globe, and the top 3 countries are the United States having the most victims, followed by India and Indonesia. Russia is ranked 4th.

Other findings on cybersecurity:

  • Over 8.5 billion records were compromised in 2019, a number that’s more than 200% greater than the number of records lost in 2018.
  • 60% of infrastructure intrusions were made using previously stolen credentials and known software vulnerabilities.
  • According to IBM, even long-known vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office and Windows Server Message Block are still successfully and extensively exploited.
  • Phishing continued to be a key threat vector in 2019, and according to the report, the most commonly spoofed brands in phishing campaigns were technology and social media platforms, such as Google, YouTube, and Apple.
