Henley Passport Index: Ukraine ranks 35th with 136 countries open for Ukrainians

Henley & Partners, a company that helps private clients to obtain residence and citizenship rights, has published its annual Passport Index, ranking Ukraine 35th worldwide.

According to The Village, 136 countries of the world are open for Ukrainians, as of April, 2021.

The Henley Passport Index is an international ranking of countries by the level of travel freedom granted to their citizens.

The Index analyzes visa rules of 227 countries and territories and ranks them by the number of countries having visa-free access to them. A country’s position in the Index is defined by the number of countries globally that its citizens can enter without prior visa arrangements (with no visa or with an on-arrival visa).

Ukrainian passport index

According to the results of the second quarter of 2021, Ukraine has risen to 35th position in the ranking. Overall, over the past 11 years, the number of visa-free destinations for Ukrainians has increased from 64 to 136.

The key point was obtaining visa-free access to Schengen countries in 2017, the ranking compilers note.

Top countries

Japan holds the top position in the Passport Index. Its citizens can visit 193 destinations in the world without a visa (or with an on-arrival visa). Singapore remains No. 2 with an index of 192 countries. South Korea and Germany are on the 3rd position (191 countries).

Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, and Finland are ranked 4th. Citizens of these countries can visit 190 countries. Austria occupies the 5th place, whose citizens have visa-free access to 189 countries.
