Lyft officially opens R&D center in Kyiv. It will employ 100 IT-specialists

Lyft opens a research and development center in Kyiv, DOU reports. The information that Lyft hires developers in Kyiv was known back in January. However, now the company has officially confirmed to DOU the information about the opening of an R&D center in the capital of Ukraine.

The Kyiv development team will strengthen the company’s tech community in Eastern Europe along with Lyft Minsk and Lyft Munich.

“For decades, Ukraine has cherished culture of science, technology and engineering background. And thanks to a large base of highly qualified professionals in the field of technology and a highly developed IT sector, Ukraine and Kyiv, in particular, is a perfect place for Lyft Engineering,” the company commented.

What will engineers work on at the Lyft Kyiv office

The Kyiv office team will focus on mapping. Tasks that Ukrainians will work on include:

  • collection and support of the most relevant and accurate mapping data;
  • development of algorithms, models and services of the platform to provide a framework for Lyft’s current and future offerings.

What IT specialists the company is looking for

Lyft Kyiv already has over 20 employees. The company is planning to increase the staff to 100 people. It is currently looking for Data Science specialists, Designers, Product and Engineering Managers, Back-end and Mobile Developers.

A team of cartographers (GIS specialists) will be also created in Kyiv. This team will work together with engineering teams towards optimizing the Lyft services.
